May 30th - June 2nd

This week...

Humanities: In social studies we discussed the provincial election, and were introduced to our last unit on local government. 

In ELA, we watched a film based on the book Hatchet comparing and contrasting the two. We are now working on our final projects. Students have a choice between diorama, news article, and journal entry to represent their comprehension of the novel. 

French: Students are now working on a new project where they are researching an animal of choice, and presenting on the chosen animal in French. 

Phys Ed & Wellness: We will continue our track and field unit in P.E. this week we ran the 800meter, and had the opportunity to play 9 square.

This week...

Announcements: English Language Arts PAT Part A this Wednesday (May 17th) 

Humanities: For social, we are wrapping up our unit on the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) confederacy. Students will be tasked with comparing the two models of historical democracy that we've learned about this year in a Venn Diagram. 

In ELA, we will continue to read the novel "Hatchet" with a focus on vocabulary and comprehension. We will also review and write a practice newspaper article in preparation for our PAT on Wednesday. 

Due Date:
Democracy Venn Diagram - Friday, May 19th 

French: Students will complete their "Ma Ville" presentation slides. This involved exploring a french city, and describing its landmarks and locations using French language. 

Ma Ville: Due Week of May 8th (TBD) 

Phys Ed & Wellness: We will continue our track and field unit in P.E. In wellness we will complete our sexual health unit, with a final discussion about pregnancy and fetal development.

Announcements: "Under Pressure Science Workshop" May 8th, 10th, 11th and 24th. Permission slips have been sent home, please sign and return ASAP. 

Humanities: For social, we will continue to learn about the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) confederacy. This week we will focus on the structure of their government, and how decisions are made through consensus. In ELA, we will continue to read the novel "Hatchet" with a focus on vocabulary and comprehension. Later in the week we will practice using the PAT software, reviewing procedures for the eventual test. For our practice this week we will be writing a response to the novel Hatchet. 

Virtual Wampum Belt - Due Monday May 1st 

French: Students will continue to identify locations and landmarks in their chosen city. These locations will be added to their ongoing "Ma Ville" presentation slides. Locations will be described using French language. 

Ma Ville: Due Week of May 8th (TBD) 

Phys Ed & Wellness: This week we will begin our track and field unit, focusing on relays and long jump. In wellness we will continue our sexual health unit Monday, discussing reproduction and consent.

Humanities: For social, we will continue to learn about the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) confederacy. This week we will focus on the six different nations that make up the confederacy. In ELA, we will continue to read the novel "Hatchet" with a focus on vocabulary and comprehension. Later in the week we will practice writing a PAT based on a picture prompt to familiarize ourselves with the program and procedure. 

Nations Presentation Slides: Due Friday, April 28th (New deadline) 

French: Students will continue to identify locations and landmarks in their chosen city. These locations will be added to their ongoing "Ma Ville" presentation slides. Locations will be described using French language. 

Ma Ville: Due Week of May 8th (TBD) 

Phys Ed & Wellness: This week we are continuing to practice sportsmanship and cooperation through Low Organized Games.

Humanities: For social, we will continue to learn about the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) confederacy. This week we will focus on the six different nations that make up the confederacy. In ELA, we will continue to read the novel "Hatchet" with a focus on vocabulary and comprehension. We will also take a quick look/ review of figurative language. 

Nations Presentation Slides: Due Friday, April 17th 

French: Students will tour their chosen French city (virtually) using google maps. They will identify landmarks, and add these to their ongoing "Ma Ville" presentation slides. 

Ma Ville: Due Week of May 1st (TBD) 

Phys Ed & Wellness: We will begin our Health unit on Sexual Health. Today, we played anatomy bingo, reviewing terms to do with our reproductive systems. For PE, we will learn how to throw/ catch a frisbee and play ultimate.

Welcome, and March 23rd Update

Thank you for warmly accepting me into SWL this week. It was nice to meet you all. 

After spring break we will begin our Human Sexuality unit in Health. Forms were sent home yesterday outlining the content and plan. If you would like to exempt your child, please sign and return the attached form or otherwise indicate. 

I will post future updates, announcements and deadlines on here to keep you all informed. I will also outline content we will be covering in the upcoming week.
